WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Two environmental groups have sent a warning letter to Chemours, alleging the company is violating a 2019 consent order meant to prevent further PFAS impacts to the Cape Fear region.
Cape Fear River Watch and the Southern Environmental Law Center sent the letter Wednesday. It alleges PFAS discharge levels and air emissions from the company’s Fayetteville Works facility are still too high, putting families and communities at risk.
The notice alleges Chemours is not complying with several parts of the 2019 consent order, which includes requirements to prevent further contamination. The consent order, between NCDEQ, Cape Fear River Watch and Chemours, requires the company to address PFAS sources and contamination at the Bladen County plant, and to prevent additional impacts to air, soil, groundwater and surface waters…
