A wave of violence in Fayetteville has left four families mourning the loss of loved ones after four deadly shootings in just more than a week.
For Tammie Shelton Brown, the past days have been a blur of grief and disbelief.
Her youngest son, Andrew Brown, 34, was shot and killed on Sept. 30. Sitting on a porch, Brown wiped away tears as she remembered her son and wrestled with the sudden loss.
“They took him from us. They took him from me. They took him from his father. They took it from his brother. His son. He didn’t deserve it. He didn’t deserve it at all,” Brown said. “I don’t even know what to say about Fayetteville anymore. I mean, it’s like death after death. But I never imagined that my child was going to be one of the statistics.”
A string of shootings
The first deadly shooting in this recent spurt of violence took place Sept. 25. Police responded to reports of gunfire on Cedar Creek Road, where they found Shawn Williams Jr., 21, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, Williams died at the scene.
Corey Beckford, 27, was arrested on Oct. 2 and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy. He remains in custody at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond…
