Hunters help driver from car after Cameron crash

A man escaped a single-vehicle crash without any serious injuries in Cameron early Sunday morning. The crash happened in the 900 block of N.C. 24-27 near the Moore/Harnett County line around 6:30 a.m.

According to officials on scene, the Ford passenger car left the roadway on the opposite side, went airborne, struck a group of trees head-on, then overturned and came to a stop on its roof in the eastbound lane of N.C. 24-27. The car sustained extensive front-end damage, including both front wheels and suspension being ripped completely off the car.

The driver told officials he was traveling westbound on N.C. 24-27 toward U.S. 1 when he fell asleep. He woke up, smelled smoke, and tried to get out of the car…
