FTCC Opens Expanded Fire Training Complex With Live-Burn Buildings and Specialized Simulators

Fayetteville Technical Community College unveiled Phase II of the J. Larry Keen Regional Fire Rescue Training Facility on Jan. 7, 2026. The expansion brings two live-fire burn structures, a flashover simulator, and training props designed to prepare emergency responders for situations they’ll face in the field.

Two new structures now stand on site. One is a single-story house. The other is a two-story apartment building. Both join the existing three-story burn building to give trainees hands-on practice in fire suppression, search and rescue, ventilation, firefighter rescue, and incident command management.

A flashover simulator sits adjacent to the apartment burn structure. Flashover, which is the sudden ignition of everything in a room, can occur within seconds and causes a substantial number of firefighter deaths each year…
