Man arrested for posing as fire system inspector, targeted minority-owned businesses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man is in custody after fire investigators say he posed as a licensed fire inspector and targeted businesses owned by people who don’t speak English as their first language.

Fire investigators say Wesley Shaw ran an unlicensed business called Tennessee Fire Specialty Systems, where he posed as a licensed fire inspector to business owners. He charged hundreds of dollars per inspection for inspections he wasn’t qualified to perform.

Betty Ramos, who owns a grocery, meat and flower market on Nolensville Pike, said she first encountered Shaw about 17 or 18 years ago when she worked at different restaurants. She said Shaw would conduct inspections two times a year at Latin restaurants where she worked…
