Iowa City’s plans to erect a six-story, $40 million building offering residential and entertainment options downtown have been shelved.
In 2025, Iowa City picked Grand Rail Development to engineer a project at 21 S. Linn Street, with potential for a restaurant and retail space. The building was also expected to include stage space for the Englert Theatre, while The Stories Project, ACT, Inc. and the City of Iowa City were each promised a piece of the property.
