WYOMING, MI – The Wyoming Police Department is purchasing two new drones to provide officers with a bird’s-eye view during search operations, critical incidents and large-scale special events.
The Wyoming City Council approved the purchase of the two new drones, at a cost of $26,226, in a 5-1 vote at its May 18 meeting. City Councilmember Marissa Postler was the sole “no” vote, citing concerns about increased surveillance on the community.
The purchase will increase the department’s drone fleet from one to three. Wyoming police Lt. Aaron Brooks said the drones are used for things like locating fleeing suspects and mapping fatal traffic crashes, calling the technology a “game changer” for improving officer safety and efficiency…
