Baldwin County mother charged following investigation into child’s death

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (NBC 15) — According to the Baldwin Co. Sheriff’s Office, on May 5, 2026, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Alabama Department of Human Resources regarding concerns reported by a physician at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital involving a 17-month-old child receiving medical treatment.

Investigators learned that on May 4, 2026, 22-year-old Kaitlynn Dominick brought her 17-month-old son to the hospital. Tragically, the child passed away the following morning. Hospital staff was alarmed at lab results from the child, prompting the physician to make a mandatory report to the Alabama Department of Human Resources. During the initial stages of the investigation, Investigators learned the child had a medical condition that required the use of a surgically implanted gastric feeding tube for nourishment.

Dominick provided inconsistent statements regarding the incident. Extensive interviews were conducted with Dominick, medical personnel, family members, and other individuals with relevant information to the case, in an effort to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
