Franklin County residents seek restrictions on data center development

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WDBJ) – Leaders in Franklin County are scrapping more than 400 pages of work laying out zoning rules that explain what can be built and where.

That is in part because of data centers. Leaders are now starting from scratch. It comes after residents raised concerns that its wording could open the door to developments in the area.

As of right now, no data centers are under contract in Franklin County. The county says it cannot confirm or deny whether it has had discussions with data center companies…
