Man arrested for allegedly starting fire in Spring Valley, prompting evacuations

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man was arrested on suspicion of deliberately setting a fire in Spring Valley that threatened homes, deputies said Tuesday.

On Memorial Day, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call from a Spring Valley resident around 6:30 p.m. who said they saw a man use a lighter to ignite a palm tree near the Spring Valley Swap Meet on Quarry Road.

Nearby residents at the Spring Canyon Townhomes were evacuated while deputies searched the area for the arson suspect…
