Birmingham Park and Recreation to open 7 pools, offer swimming lessons

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Park and Recreation plans to open seven of its 18 city pools on June 6, with swimming lessons beginning June 9.

Last year, the city opened its public pools on a staggered schedule, beginning Memorial Day weekend. Officials say they’re opening later this year due to repair work being done on the pools.

“Birmingham Parks and Recreation wanted to make sure before we open these pools that we make sure these repairs were done, so we wouldn’t have to close any pools during the summer,” explained Rod Isaac, the Aquatics Supervisor for Birmingham Park and Recreation. “We want to make sure that the kids, and the communities have a great summer, a steady summer, a consistent summer.”…
