BRECKSVILLE, Ohio — The barn at Maple Crest Farm doesn’t look like a place that changed someone’s life, but for Chrissy Aitken, it did.

She comes here at least once a week — to groom, to harness, to drive, to breathe. The moment she walks through the door, something shifts. The outside world, with all its noise and judgment, falls away.

“When I’m with the horses, the outside world doesn’t matter,” Chrissy says. “The horses don’t judge you. You’re nice to them, they’re nice to you. Just calming, I guess.”…
