WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A trial is scheduled for Wednesday in Sedgwick County District Court Wednesday for a man accused of killing two people while fleeing from police in 2023.
Jimmy Guinn III is charged with:
- Two counts of first-degree murder or, in the alternative, two counts of second-degree murder
- Flee or attempt to elude while operating a stolen vehicle
- Flee or attempt to elude a law enforcement officer by engaging in reckless driving
- Theft of property or services valued between $1,500 and $25,000
He is accused of stealing a vehicle in Andover in May 2023 and leading law enforcement on a chase that ended east of Derby, where he crashed head-on into a pickup truck. Nathaniel Ashworth, 19, of Wichita and his soon-to-be fiancee, 20-year-old Alyna Elder from Rose Hill, were killed in the crash.
The case has taken three years to get to trial, in part due to Guinn originally being found incompetent to stand trial, according to court records.
