AUSTIN (KXAN) – The William Cannon Drive bridge over Interstate 35 will close for two consecutive weekends as part of ongoing construction on the I-35 Capital Express South project, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, May 29, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 1, and again from 10 p.m. Friday, June 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 8.
TxDOT officials said the bridge will be closed so crews can set beams for the project’s elevated managed lanes. Lane reductions will also be in place on I-35 mainlanes and in both directions along the frontage roads during the work.
Detours will direct traffic along the I-35 frontage roads. Drivers heading eastbound on William Cannon Drive will be routed to turn right onto the frontage road to access southbound I-35 or use a U-turn at Slaughter Lane to head north.
