The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education gave the green light Tuesday to construct a 100-unit housing complex for teachers on seven acres adjacent to Garinger High School. Board members voted to grant Innovative Housing Solutions Foundation an option to lease property at the corner of East Sugar Creek Road and Eastway Drive in east Charlotte.
The deal establishes a 99-year lease at $100 rent. Building should start in 2027. Completion is slated for summer 2029. The nonprofit builder must raise money for construction by June 2027 and finalize the lease by December 2027.
