A 12-year-old from Hudson County will be among the nine finalists on stage at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on Thursday evening.
Ishaan Gupta is a seventh grader at Frank R. Conwell Middle School in Jersey City. He will be competing live on stage at Constitution Hall as the finalists compete for the $50,000 top prize.
