ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — In an effort to reduce overpopulation at the Fulton County Jail, Sheriff Pat Labat announced this week that the jail will stop accepting inmates charged with many misdemeanor crimes.
Those inmates will instead be housed at other local municipal facilities, like Atlanta’s City Detention Center. The policy kicks in on July 1.
Fulton County commission chairman Robb Pitts wants it to start even earlier; Pitts wants the policy to start before the first World Cup matches in Atlanta June 15. He says he will have a talk with Labat to see if that can happen…
