AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The water is fine and the pool is open and those at the Augusta Aquatics Center ready to dive right in.“I’m pumped to hit the pool. I love meeting here every day for Augusta Swim Team. It’s just a lot of fun to come out and have fun with the boys,” said Maverick Krusina.But for the past six weeks, the Aquatics Center has been closed for repairs to the fire alarm system. That work is over but over, at the Brigham Center, the work is not over, and the pool has been closed since Halloween. “Really haven’t heard anything so far about the pool being open. It’s sad,” said Kim Campbell.The opening of the Aquatics Center has some at Brigham saying, when will it be our turn?
“Now we got this beautiful community center offering all of these amenities and we don’t have this wonderful pool open. It’s time, hear me, commissioners, mayor, it’s time,” said Georgia Meriweather.And after seven month of repairs, city officials agree say it’s almost time at Brigham.“They are working diligently getting those repairs done and as soon as that gets done, we’re going to open that pool back as well. I’m hoping within the next week,” said City Administrator Tameka Allen.Pools are expensive to maintain.
The Aquatics Center is 27-years-old, but Augusta voters are making an investment approving $5.7 million dollars in SPLOST 9 for city pools but it would be cheaper to close the doors.“Lock the doors on this pool? Absolutely not. It needs to open,” said Meriweather…
