CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A mix of sun and clouds will bring a mild afternoon to western Massachusetts Friday, but a sharp cooldown is expected heading into the weekend.
Early morning temperatures were on the cool side, dipping to 49 degrees in Springfield. Despite the chilly start, temperatures are expected to climb quickly, reaching the 70s across the Pioneer Valley by midday. Highs on Friday afternoon will range from 72 to 76 degrees, with slightly cooler conditions in the Berkshires.

A few spotty showers are possible later in the day, but more widespread rain is expected overnight as a cold front moves through the region.
That front will bring a dramatic drop in temperatures by Saturday morning. Lows are expected to fall into the upper 30s and low 40s, with gusty winds making it feel even colder. Wind chills could dip into the 20s in some areas, an unusual occurrence in May.

Saturday will be breezy and cool, with scattered morning showers and highs only reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Some of the highest elevations in the Berkshires could even see a mix of wet snowflakes early in the day.
