Local gas station’s low prices fuel survival at a challenging time

The owner of 36 Lyn Refuel Station says he’s worried that many independent convenience stores will close amid high oil prices and elevated tensions.

MINNEAPOLIS — If you were looking for the cheapest gas in the Twin Cities on Thursday, you could wait in line at a certain wholesale club to fill up for about $3.99/gallon (with a membership card), or you could visit the little guy on West 36th St and Lyndale Ave in Minneapolis.

“Costco is the same price as here,” said Abdul Ismail, who has become much more than just a regular customer at 36 Lyn Refuel Station. “I’m loyal to this place, for the last seven years now and it’s not even me. Look now, if you ask (other customers), each one of them are coming from different cities here.”…
