Tucson nonprofit helps close ‘million word gap’ for low-income students

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The words children hear before age five can shape their entire academic future.

A 2019 study in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics found that low-income children enter kindergarten knowing 1.4 million fewer words. A Tucson nonprofit is working to close that gap.
