A late-night house fire on a rural road outside Saluda has now been ruled a crime scene, after autopsies confirmed that an elderly couple found inside were killed in a double homicide, authorities say.
The victims have been identified as Robert Louis Peck and Wendy Susan Peck, both 80. Their bodies were discovered around 8:30 p.m. after emergency crews responded to a reported structure fire at their home near Saluda.

Polk County officials said autopsies determined the deaths were homicides in a May 28 news release, according to The Charlotte Observer. Detectives from Polk County are working with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation as the probe ramps up.
