New York attorney admits embezzling more than $500K from trust

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A New York lawyer pleaded guilty Friday to charges of fraud in connection to more taking more than $500,000 from a real estate trust that he was managing.

Edward Miller, 70, of Lawrence, New York, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty in Bridgeport federal court to a fraud offense stemming from his embezzlement of money from a trust.

Prosecutors said Miller was a New York attorney who, in December 2014, set up a trust for the victim to managing certain property, including a commercial building the victim owned in New Canaan. Edwards was named to manage the finances of the real property in the M.P. Trust, including depositing rental income from the commercial building into the trust account, paying costs associated with the management of the building, and distributing funds to the victim. Miller was also responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the building.
