You can hardly fling a bean bag this summer without hitting a live musician or a food cart. (This is particularly true for east siders).
My favorite is Fête de Marquette, Wil-Mar’s annual celebration of French-inspired music. I love zydeco on a humid July night, bats flying overhead as my neighbors show off their moves. Nothing’s as charmingly awkward as the dancing at an east side festival.
Speaking of music, we caught up with Helen Feest and the Feestet ensemble last summer at Jazz at Five. The singer reached out again recently to share a new/old patronage model she’s exploring for the group’s regular jazz jam at North Street Cabaret. Sultan Ahmed of Sultan Restaurant on Willy Street financed the first half of the year at North Street. As it turns out, paid musicians anchoring a free jam makes it better for everyone…
