UPDATE:
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said the escaped detainee, Latoria Sample, was captured by deputies on May 29, 2026.
According to Jones, Sample was located inside an unlocked vehicle at Woodlands Apartments about an hour after her escape. He said Sample escaped by compromising her handcuffs and exited the moving vehicle on Highway 18. She was being transported back to the Hinds County Detention Center following a court appearance.
The sheriff stated that an internal investigation will be conducted to determine if the locking system of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office vehicle malfunctioned or if procedures were not followed correctly…
