An Enchanted Evening, the 2026 Rankin County School District (RCSD) prom for ninth to twelfth graders in the self-contained classes district wide, was held at Florence High School (FHS) last month. Most of these students don’t attend their school’s regular prom, so this event was just for them.
“At this prom, our students with disabilities are able to come and enjoy, dancing without judgement, and partying with supports,” said Tiffany Withers, who serves as the FHS self-contained Special Education teacher. “With this prom being for self-contained students, we are able to make it sensory-friendly – lights dimmed so not completely dark, music can be quieter and lots of balloons for sensory play. Students are able to bring family members and even dates! There was no fee to get into the RCSD prom, and all the food was free.”…
