(Glenwood) — Mills County officials were the latest to hear calls for new ordinances and moratoriums on various types of projects, ranging from carbon pipelines to data centers.
At its regular meeting earlier this week, the Mills County Board of Supervisors heard public comment from several individuals regarding recent developments in Summit Carbon Solutions’ proposed Midwest Express CO2 pipeline and renewed calls to update county ordinances. Earlier this month, Summit officials announced that they had submitted a revised filing with the Iowa Utilities Commission that would remove proposed routes in Shelby, Pottawattamie, Montgomery, Adams, Page, Fremont, Mitchell, and Worth counties and remove four ethanol plants from the project, including Green Plains Shenandoah and POET Corning. Montgomery County resident Jan Norris has been one of the more outspoken opponents to the project in KMAland. Norris says the IUC still has several decisions to make regarding Summit’s project.
“They have to rule on amendments, a route change, an end use, conditions, and consolidation, and it even may go back to district court, so it is easy to see why some parties are asking Summit to just start over,” said Norris. “Without a route here, some may think that landowners who signed easements made out like bandits. But, remember, unless otherwise stated in their signed document, those easements can be forever.”…
