Baton Rouge man sentenced to 15 years on gun possession charges

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man was sentenced to 180 months in prison after being convicted of illegally possessing a firearm.

According to a release from U.S. Attorney Kurt L. Wall, on Sept. 17, 2021, Kentro Taylor, 52, was driving a BMW that was involved in a crash in Baton Rouge. During a search of the BMW after the crash, investigators found a Smith and Wesson gun on top of the front passenger seat and within reach of Taylor. The gun was equipped with an extended magazine and loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition.

Officials stated on Oct. 7, 2020, Taylor was driving a Dodge Dart before being stopped by an Illinois State Police trooper in Douglas County on I-57. During a search, the trooper found a Smith and Wesson inside a bag. The gun was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. The sentencing in this case is to run concurrently with the Louisiana charges…
