MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people have been charged after investigators say a fraudulent deed was filed in an attempt to transfer ownership of a Southwest Memphis home valued at nearly $80,000.
According to affidavits obtained by WREG, 50-year-old Marty Marmon and 43-year-old Shawnquentia Garrett are each charged with theft of property valued between $60,000 and $250,000, forgery, and unlawfully drawing property transfer documents without an interest in the property.
The case began in December 2025 when a woman reported that she discovered a quitclaim deed had been filed transferring ownership of her Leacrest Avenue property to her uncle, Marmon, without her knowledge or permission.

The woman told investigators she inherited the property from her grandmother in 2021 and never authorized the transfer. She alleged her signature on the deed had been forged.
According to the affidavit, the woman also told investigators the signature on the deed resembled signatures she believed had been forged on her grandmother’s bank withdrawal slips while Garrett, Marmon’s girlfriend, accompanied the grandmother to the bank…
