Protest at federal courthouse in Eugene seeks removal of Police Chief Chris Skinner

EUGENE, OR — A protest calling for the removal of Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner is being held today, May 30, in front of the federal courthouse in Eugene, following the release of body camera footage tied to Eugene Police officer Martin Siller.

The protest comes after footage surfaced from Jan. 30, when Siller was on patrol during anti-ICE protests at the old federal building. During that event, protesters “standing up for immigrant rights were being teargassed,” while Siller was heard on a phone call with another officer in Utah making racist and misogynistic comments, including racial slurs, racist remarks about Black people and immigrants, and dismissive comments about domestic violence.

Local documentarian Tim Lewis released the body camera footage on May 5, and Siller resigned hours later…
