Indian Lake, Mechanicsburg send multiple to state; boys regional track & field results

Area boys’ track and field athletes turned in strong performances Saturday at multiple OHSAA regional meets, highlighted by regional championships from Benjamin Logan’s Carter Daniels and Mechanicsburg’s Beckett Negley. Several area athletes secured automatic state qualifications by finishing among the top five in their events, while others earned at-large bids after placing sixth through eighth.

Indian Lake was led by a pair of senior standouts who will continue their seasons at the state championships.

Christopher Timms delivered one of the area’s top field-event performances of the weekend, earning a runner-up finish in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 55-9.75. The mark secured an automatic state qualification and capped an impressive postseason run for the senior thrower.

Gavin Henry also punched his ticket to the state meet in the 110-meter hurdles. Competing against one of the strongest hurdle fields in the region, Henry crossed the finish line fifth in 15.10 to claim the final automatic qualifying spot.

The Lakers also received a regional appearance from junior Carter Barnett in the long jump. Barnett finished 15th overall with a leap of 18-3.5 after advancing through district competition to reach the regional stage…
