New nightclub approved at former Brooklyn Mirage despite past tragedies

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A new nightclub looking to rewrite the tragic history of its predecessor got approved for its temporary liquor license Thursday.

Pacha New York is preparing for its June 20 opening at the old Brooklyn Mirage venue at the Avant Gardner space. Avant Gardner went belly up in 2025 after a trio of deaths due to drug overdoses, numerous lawsuits, and many State Liquor Authority violations, according to Brooklyn Paper.

Still, the community fears the nightlife that Pacha New York will draw will spark disastrous déjà vu in addition to general disorder associated with night life; noise complaints, vomiting, and the like…
