On Sunday, Grand Island Fire Co. dispatch was notified by Water Department personnel of a chlorine leak alarm at the Town of Grand Island Water Department’s water tank and pumping station on Whitehaven Road. The GIFC responded to the facility to investigate the alarm.
Upon arrival, firefighters, working alongside Water Department personnel, detected a faint chlorine odor in the area outside the structure. Due to the potential hazards associated with a chlorine release, additional specialized resources were requested, including the Brighton Volunteer Fire Co.
