Man handed less than a year for role in shooting that left a 17-year-old in critical condition

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man who pleaded guilty to avoid an attempted murder charge in a shooting that left a teen in life-threatening condition was sentenced to less than a year in prison Monday.

20-year-old Aaron Amos was one of two men charged after he and 20-year-old Aniah Hill pulled up beside a father and his 17-year-old son and “frightened his son,” according to court documents in the case. The son told his dad to drive through the red light because their lives were in danger, according to court documents.

The suspect car, which Amos was allegedly driving, chased them through the city’s south side until Oliver Street, where shots were fired. The 17-year-old was shot near his skull, according to court documents.

Hill and Amos were both charged with attempted murder, and Amos eventually pleaded guilty to assisting a criminal. At Monday’s sentencing, Amos was ordered to serve six years, but the judge suspended two years and gave Amos credit for the 438 days he had already served in the Allen County Jail while awaiting sentencing…
