Montgomery County Commonwealth’s Attorney set to retire this summer

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Montgomery County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mary Pettitt has announced her retirement, effective August 1, 2026.

The county says Pettitt has served as a prosecutor there since May 2005, first serving as an assistant, then as the Chief Deputy, and she was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2012. She was re-elected without opposition in 2015, 2019, and 2023.
