ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- Commonwealth’s Attorney John McNeil, Jr. announced the indictments of two men in separate cases for the City of Roanoke.
The grand jury found probable cause to indict Larry Ranson Cooper, 43, on the following charges:
- Attempted malicious wounding of Roanoke Police Officer J.M. Jones
- Destruction of property greater than $1,000
- Hit and run involving property greater than $1,000
The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred on May 22 in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1000 block of Orange Avenue NE. Police said Cooper drove into two police vehicles before fleeing the scene. During the incident, officers fired shots, striking Cooper, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result.
Cooper is currently in custody in the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center on unrelated charges.

Probable cause was found to indict Kenneth Lynn Campbell, Jr., 43, on the following charges:
- Aggravated DUI manslaughter
- Operating a motor vehicle on a revoked operator’s license as a result of previous DUI convictions
The charges against Cooper stem from an alleged incident that happened on May 25. Police said Cooper was driving a Chevrolet Equinox when he crashed into a Honda Civic at the intersection of Lafayette Boulevard and Melrose Avenue NW. The driver of the Civic, identified as Jose Saenz Ventura, 30, of Roanoke, died as a result. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment…
