Well-known Savannah daycare closing, reflects larger childcare issue in Georgia

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — After more than 20 years in operation, Bible Baptist Daycare notified parents on Friday that it has to close because of staffing issues.

Curtis Ferland, a parent to three enrolled at Bible Baptist Daycare, said the center has provided excellent service. Now, he is uncertain how he will find new care for his children before the facility closes.

When his family first applied to enroll their oldest child, Ferland said they spent 13 months on a waiting list before securing a spot. He said he fears he will face similar frustrations finding a new center for his children.

“There’s no answer for what parents are going to have to or can do,” said Ferland. “They may need to move, drive an hour for daycare, stop working, which is not really feasible in today’s world. We’re not living in the times where one salary can support a whole family anymore.”…
