Seven Cabins Fire 53% contained, crews implement new strategy

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Seven Cabins Fire, burning in the Capitan Mountain Wilderness, has grown to over 29,531 acres, but containment increased to 53 percent as of Monday, June 1.

Fire officials stated that if conditions permit, firefighters will be implementing an indirect containment strategy to burn out a small area of land to reduce hazardous fuels in front of the fire.

Crews will slowly start bringing low-intensity fire down the steep, inaccessible slopes. This will increase containment while reducing the complexity of the fire perimeter. There are 827 personnel on scene…
