Can You Guess El Paso’s Oldest Sports Venue?

El Paso is full of history, especially when it comes to sports. For over a century, El Paso has loved all types of sports. From football to baseball, we’ve love watching a good game at our local stadiums. But which ones are the oldest we’ve had in El Paso & are they still around? Well that’s what we will find out here but first…

Here are some stadiums & arenas that missed being the top 5 oldest in El Paso

We of course have the home of the El Paso Chihuahuas baseball team, Southwest University Park. The park has only been around for over 10 years; it first opened up in 2014 and has a seating capacity of around 9,500.

While we’re talking about baseball, Cohen Stadium also missed the list as it was opened up in the 90s. It first opened up in 1990 and was the home to the El Paso Diablos baseball team. Sadly Cohen Stadium is no longer around as it was torn down in 2019 to make way for a water park, which is now Camp Cohen.

UTEP’s Don Haskins Center also missed this list; the current home for for UTEP’s men & women’s basketball was opened up in 1976 with over 12,000 seats inside. This was NOT where the 1966 championship team played but don’t worry. (We’ll get there)…
