HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WBMA) — Hueytown has officially opened a new outdoor destination on West Rock Mountain, giving residents and visitors a place to hike and bike through the scenic terrain of West Jefferson County.
The City of Hueytown announced the opening of the Hueytown West Rock Mountain Nature Preserve, which features more than six miles of trails winding through the mountain landscape. Routes include Tornado Alley, Gober’s Gorge, The Coal Chute, Hueytown “Hum” Dinger, Byron’s Pass and Mountain Top Trail.
The preserve’s trail system includes 11 named trails totaling about 6.7 miles for hiking and mountain biking, with options for varying skill levels. Access is available from the Dee Hendrix Trailhead, with dedicated parking areas for visitors off Dee Hendrix Road…
