If you spot a buzzard wearing a bright ID tag, it’s not your imagination.
Some 600 have been captured, fitted with a wing tag and returned to the wild as part of a Mississippi State University wildlife research project. Over 400 sightings have been reported, including some as far away as Watts Bar Lake in East Tennessee.
The study is intended to chart buzzards’ migrations and interactions with people. The large birds raise concern around airports by flying too close to planes. They can damage automobiles when stuck as they feed on roadkill and make messes by roosting in residential areas…
