Georgia Opts Out of Sun Bucks Program, Cutting Summer Food Aid for Thousands

Georgia has rejected the Sun Bucks program. Thousands of kids won’t get summer meal help. The program gives eligible parents $120 per child to buy food during the summer months when schools close their cafeterias.

Sun Bucks works as a summer EBT benefit designed to help families when school ends. Alabama and several other states signed up. But Georgia said no, which means kids in Columbus and small towns across the state will go without this money.

Tashanna Hill raises four children by herself in Georgia. She says the funding would’ve changed things for her family. “It would’ve helped us provide more food and keep us stable, you know, to the next school year,” Hill said, per WRDW…
