Café with 700 board games, ‘globally inspired’ menu opens this week in former Fat Boy space

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids’ Creston neighborhood is ready to welcome a new board game café in the former Fat Boy building.

Kobold’s Kitchen, located at 2450 Plainfield Ave. NE at Hollywood Street, is holding its soft opening Wednesday. The restaurant will be open seven days a week, serving a variety of foods and offering hundreds of board games to play.

Fat Boy closed in February 2025 after more than 70 years of serving burgers. The building sold shortly afterward.
