Man sentenced for high-speed chase, barricading in Belmont retirement community in October

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The man who led authorities on a high-speed chase and barricaded himself in a Belmont retirement community back in October learned his sentence for the crimes this week.

Cody Skaggs was sentenced Monday to up to 30 years in prison for charges of breaking and entering, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing a police officer, home invasion and attempting to disarm a peace officer.

He also faces charges for being a habitual offender. Skaggs was previously sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder. However, he was released in 2024 after a resentencing…
