Cost of living increases for City of Conway employees, higher operating costs, and the addition of 30 new staff positions account for a more than $3 million increase in General Fund spending from the city in its 2026-27 fiscal year budget that will go into effect on July 1.
The Conway City Council approved a second reading of the proposed budget during its 4 p.m. meeting on Monday, June 1. The first reading on the proposed budget was presented during council’s May 18 meeting. The second reading of the budget on Monday was placed on the meeting’s consent agenda, which does not allow for comments from the public or discussion on the items from City Council members.
The total proposed budget for the 2027 fiscal year is $111 million dollars, about $100,000 less than the current budget. The overall decrease, according to city staff, is due to the completion of several large projects that the city has been working on for the past several years…
