CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A San Diego judge raised his voice for the first time during the Larry Millete murder trial Tuesday morning after a heated 45-minute exchange between attorneys over defense strategy.
Judge Enrique Camarena, who is typically soft-spoken with a calm demeanor, became visibly frustrated during arguments about how far the defense can go in suggesting Jamey Laird, the man Maya had had an affair with, may have been involved in her disappearance. The defense maintains they are not directly accusing Laird, but rather highlighting what they call a shoddy police investigation, pointing out how they believe he wasn’t properly investigated.
The courtroom tension escalated when the defense accused the prosecution of laughing during this exchange. Judge Camarena responded by telling defense attorney Liann Sabatini the eyes she’s making at him and hand gestures toward him were also unacceptable…
