Man sentenced to 18 years for fatal New Year’s Eve DUI Uber crash in North Port

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — The man convicted of drunkenly crashing into an Uber and killing a passenger on New Year’s Eve in 2019 has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

According to a release, State Attorney Ed Brodsky announced on Tuesday that 47-year-old Mark Barcia was sentenced to federal prison for DUI Manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury, and two counts of DUI with personal injury for the fatal crash that occurred in Northport.

On that day, police arrested Barcia after he slammed his Ford F250 truck into the back of an Uber, instantly killing one of its passengers, 61-year-old David Flick.

The Uber driver and another backseat passenger were also injured in the crash and were taken to the hospital…
