Motorcyclist dead after alleged overnight pursuit in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — Authorities say a motorcyclist had died after allegedly leading a police pursuit in Des Moines overnight.

The Iowa State Patrol says just after 11:00 p.m. on Monday, a trooper attempted to stop a motorcyclist heading west on Euclid Avenue for a traffic violation. Officials say the driver accelerated away from the patrol car and then “continued to drive in a reckless manner.”

The driver continued at a high rate of speed, made several bad passes, and attempted to cross 2nd Avenue on a red light in order to flee from law enforcement, the ISP report alleges. As the motorcycle was crossing the intersection, authorities say a sedan struck the motorcyclist.

ISP says the driver, 47-year-old Adam May, of Des Moines, was thrown from their motorcycle and sustained unspecified injuries. May was taken to a local hospital by the Des Moines Fire Department where they later died from their injuries…
