Case closed in 14-year-old lawsuit over Fluvanna prison conditions

A federal class action lawsuit demanding proper medical care at a Central Virginia women’s prison has concluded.

For the last decade, Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women has been subject to independent monitoring to ensure its compliance with a February 2016 settlement agreement.

The agreement required the facility to follow generally accepted national clinical guidelines for treating various chronic diseases and conditions. More specifically, the guidelines for treating urinary tract infections were modified to require a physician’s visit within 72 hours of diagnosis.
