30 firefighters put out fire at Plainfield Township recycling center

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Multiple fire departments responded to a fire in a recycling center off of 10 Mile Road in Plainfield Township Tuesday evening.

Around 7:34 p.m., the Plainfield Township Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the North Kent Recycling and Waste Center just east of the intersection of 10 Mile Road and US-131. Firefighters arrived to find a “large pile of debris” on fire inside and a lot of smoke. The sprinkler system had already activated, the department said.

Because of the volume of the fire and smoke, a second alarm was requested. Firefighters were able to get the flames under control in about an hour with the help of an on-site excavator…
